Mar 20 – Candidate for the 49th Congressional District – Col Doug Applegate

dougapplegate“Control of the House in 2018 will be decided by a handful of Swing Districts, places where the last election was decided by a thin margin. In 2016, we lost the 49th by a slim margin of just 1,621 votes with over 310,000 cast.” – Doug Applegate’s website

On Monday March 20 at 7pm, meet Doug and discuss how we can work together to defeat Darrel Issa and take back the Hill.

I believe Congress is a function of the people, by the people, and for the people. For too long, we have sent politicians to Washington D.C. who play into the corruption of special interests over the needs of Americans and the nation. We need problem solvers in our government. We need new, positive leadership committed to integrity, accountability and transparency in a Congress that is willing to take big-money’s influence out of our Government.

As your elected delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives, I will reject political brinkmanship and focus on bipartisan measures that advance our economy bringing jobs back to the United States, help our troops and veterans, preserve our environment including our coastal habitats, and protect our values as American people.

We’ll also be considering endorsing Kimberly Ellis for Chair of the California Democratic Party. Kimberly visited the club in December last year.

As the very first African American Executive Director in Emerge America’s national network, Kimberly Ellis has worked tirelessly to support, train, and inspire Democratic women to step in to political power here in California.

Kimberly has worked in private industry, state government and the non-profit sector, developing leaders and successful organizations. In 2009, she was appointed by the Mayor to serve as a Commissioner for the Community Development Commission in the City of Richmond.

As Recording Secretary, Kimberly has brought expertise and experience to the African American Caucus and Democratic Party as a whole. Our state and nation are at a critical point in history. We have an opportunity to reshape the narrative around important issues facing the Black community. As a woman and a mother of two, Kimberly cares deeply about the future of our party, and is ready to help lead it.

At Emerge, the ultimate goal is to increase the number of Democratic women in public office. Kimberly Ellis has decided to lead by example, and is running to be the next Chair of the California Democratic Party.

lorena-gonzalezWe’ll be considering resolutions to support legislation recently introduced by Asssemblymember Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher who spoke to the club last month.
